PREP FOOTBALL: Riders lose tough one

The Port Angeles Roughrider football team had its first lead of the season Friday, but the Klahowya Eagles scored a pair of fourth period touchdowns to edge the Riders, 18-14.

The loss dropped the Riders to 0-3 in league play, 0-5 overall

The Eagles took the opening kickoff 52 yards in 8 plays, scoring when quarterback Konner Langholff slid in from the one-yard line.

PA answered with a 65-yard drive in 9 plays, Matt Robbins plowing in from the two.

The Riders took their first lead of the season with 2:44 leftr in the half when Nate Angevine sneaked in from the one to cap a short 44-yard drive after an Eagle fumble. Angevine passed to Robbins for two extra points.

PA took the second half kickoff all the way to the Eagle one, but could not score on fourth down. Klahowya then drove 99-yards for a score, Jon Harris going in from the five to make it 14-12.

PA drove to the Eagle 26, but lost the ball on a fumble, then the Eagles went 74 yards in 7 plays for the winning score.

Facing a 4th and 7 on the Rider 27, Langholff hit split end Jon Charoenmack on a slant pass for the win.

PA hosts Bremeton Friday at Civic Field.
