PA to self insure for employee health coverage
October 7th, 2013 - 6:08am
(Port Angeles) – The Port Angeles City Council this week agreed to participate in the self-insurance program of the Association of Washington Cities.
The City has purchased health insurance from A-W-C for the past 20 years.
It has included medical, dental, vision, life insurance
and long-term disability coverage.
A-W-C will become self-insured in January 2014, and each member city of the trust must approve an Interlocal Agreement authorizing participation in the self-insured program.
One of the immediate advantages of becoming self-insured is a
projected zero percent increase for those covered by the Trust's
Medical, Dental and Vision self-insured plans for 2014.
It will be a one-time saving, but becoming self-insured
provides much more control over the financial aspects of health care
administration, reserve funding and purchase of necessary stop-loss
