(Port Angeles) – The City of Port Angeles Utility Advisory Committee made a recommendation to the City Council to hire West Monroe Partners as a consultant to evaluate the current Advanced Metering Infrastructure System.
They'll provide solutions or a "road map" on how to make the project successful or provide alternatives to help achieve the goals of the Council.
City Manager Dan McKeen says the original cost of the West Monroe Partners' consulting fee was 99-thousand dollars, but the firm agreed to drop 12 percent off the original price, using some creative ways to communicate, like teleconferencing instead of on-site work.
The City's Chief Financial Officer Byron Olson says the credentials of West Monroe Partners has done an extensive amount of consulting for local governments, including both public and private utilities of all sizes.
He adds West Monroe also has experience in bringing A-M-I projects online and have used the same software that will operate the PA project.
The city has run into many glitches concerning the A-M-I project, but city officials believe West Monroe has the expertise to hammer out a solution.
