(Port Angeles) – Two candidates running for Olympic Medical Center commissioner, incumbent Jean Hordyk and challenger Heather Jeffers, addressed the Port Angeles Business Association this week.
Incumbent Jean Hordyk she has plenty of experience as a commissioner for 18 years.
Challenger Heather Jeffers is the Administrator of Avamere Olympic Rehabilitation in Sequim, a 125-bed facility.
She has 15 years experience of working in hospitals as a discharge planner and in social work.
Candidates spoke about the effect of the Affordable Care Act on Olympic Medical Center.
Hordyk thinks it's a good thing, in that more people can be insured.
Jeffers says the hospital will receive more overall reimbursement for the care that is provided and will reduce uncompensated care.
Both candidates agreed that the competition among hospitals for services and doctors is heating up, and Olympic Medical Center faces a challenge in hiring and keeping top-quality personnel.
