October 14th, 2013 - 6:25am
(Port Angeles) – The city of Port Angeles will take public comment on proposed utility hikes this week.
Tomorrow night, the city council holds the first of two public hearings on the proposal.
Under the plan, some residents could see their utility bills go up 17-dollars a month.
The city council will hold a hearing the rates at 6:30 Tuesday night at city hall. A second hearing is set for November 5th, after which, the city council will vote on the proposal .
The city is proposing the new rate structure after a consultant presented results of a cost-of-service for all of the city's utilities.
Depending on how often residents have their garbage picked up, the average total utility bill will go up six to six and half percent.
If approved, the new rates would take effect the first of next year.
