Guilty verdict in Port Angeles shooting

October 16th, 2013 - 5:30am

(Port Angeles) – A Port Angeles man has been found guilty of murder in the shooting death of his next-door neighbor.

A Clallam County jury yesterday returned the verdict for second-degree murder against Bobby “BJ” Smith.

The jury agreed with prosecutors that Smith shot 63-year-old Robert Fowler to death in Smith's home along Vashon Avenue in June of 2011. Smith told police he shot Fowler several times when he grabbed a knife and demanded money.

Fowler's autopsy showed he was shot several times and killed with a single shot to the back of the head.

Smith will be sentenced in December and could face more than 18 years in prison.
