Drills Tuesday on Hood Canal will cause closures

(Shine) -- The Coast Guard Maritime Force Protection Unit is holding drills today in Hood Canal.

The group, based at Bangor, will fire blank munitions while holding a live-fire drill between 9 and four today.

They're training in boat tactics, security zone enforcement and weapons capabilities.

The drills will also include a 500-yard safety zone will be in place around each participating vessel.

The Hood Canal Bridge will be closed twice today for about 30 minutes at a time as a result of the drills. The closures are expected at 10:30 a.m. and 1:45 p.m.
