Chain gang member jailed for drugs brought into Clallam jail

November 7th, 2013 - 5:34am

(Port Angeles) A Clallam County inmate, already in jail for possession of marijuana, apparently thought it would be a good idea to bring some marijuana back to jail with him after a hard day on the chain gang.

33-year old Johnathon Michael Laine told Sheriff's officials that he found the marijuana last Friday while working as part of the Sheriff's chain gang. He then smuggled the contraband into the jail with him later that day.

As deputies were conducting a routine security check, they noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the chain gang housing area. A search, with the aid of a canine, located the marijuana, a pipe, and also a lighter.

Laine is already in custody for 2 warrants, felony possession of a controlled substance (marijuana) and misdemeanor criminal trespassing. His current bond is set at $5,000, but could go up pending additional charges for this latest incident. The Sheriff's Department says that Laine will face new criminal charges of introduction of contraband into a correctional facility, typically a misdemeanor.
