New headquarters for PUD in Carlsborg

November 8th, 2013 - 2:18pm

(Port Angeles) The Clallam County P-U-D is moving ahead with plans to build a new headquarters in Carlsborg.

Under the scheme, the P-U-D will consolidate its operations at the old Costco building at Highway 101 and Hooker Rd.

The P-U-D purchased that property, at least one other parcel nearby. It has been using it as a warehouse facility for a number of years.

But P-U-D general manager Doug Nass says the P-U-D has been working with an architectural firm to come up with a plan to convert the facility.

As staff and Commissioners developed a long term strategic plan, the 2014 budget, and a 5-year financial projection, it became apparent that the right time to begin the next steps of the comprehensive facilities plan is now.

Work is starting the fall on constructing a new substation shop at the current Carlsborg Operations Center.

Next year, the P-U-D plans to tear down it Sequim office, as well as the Coastal View Building located next to the old Costco.

Then permitting will start for building a new headquarters at the site and the constuction should be finished about a year later.

The P-U-D will also put the current Port Angeles Headquarters and adjacent water maintenance shop property up for sale.

The new headquarters project is expected to cost more than 10 million dollars.

Nass says it will have some impact on rates.

The facilities are contingent upon final approval of the 2014 budget.

Commissioners will hold budget work sessions November 18th and November 19th to examine this further, with final budget approval expected in December.
