(Port Angeles) – A Sequim woman has been sentenced to 90 days in jail and told to pay back money she stole from a local real estate business.
Marie Lynette Barnett plead guilty last week to first degree theft, admitting she stole more than $18-thousand dollars from Jace, The Real Estate company.
Barnett was the bookkeeper for the company's Sequim office. She wrote 19 business checks to herself and signed the owner's name without permission between July of 2012 and May 2013. She also wrote four checks for her personal rent without permission.
At the time of the thefts, Eileen Schmitz was running the company. But Schmitz was out of the office regularly dealing with the death of her husband, Jace who founded the company.
Clallam County Superior Court Judge Erik Rohrer converted half of Barnett's sentence to Electronic Home Monitoring.
