County DCD director can waive building fees for non-profits

(Port Angeles) Clallam County building officials will be allowed to waive some development fees for certain non-profits.

County commissioners this week said okay to a request from the Community Development Director the fees be waived for organizations that provide relief to the poor, distressed or underprivileged.

In the past, those it would require county commissioner action.

The move came after the community development director couldn't waive fees attached to a new home being constructed between Port Angeles and Sequim for a wounded Marine.

Local volunteers, through the North Peninsula Building Association are building the home under the Homes for Our Troops organization.

Commissioners Mike Chapman and Jim McEntire voted for the change. Commissioner Mike Doherty was against it.
