Kelly steps down as Clallam Prosecutor
November 15th, 2013 - 11:56am
(Port Angeles) – Clallam County prosecutor Deb Kelly is resigning.
In a letter sent to county commissioners this morning, Kelly says she will step down from her duties at the end of this year.
Kelly says a personal matter developed last year which competed for her focus on the job and community. But she felt she needed to see completion of the retrial of Darold Stenson before making a job decision. Stenson was found guilty again of double murder this week. Kelly says she needs to give her family full attention now.
Kelly is urging the commissioners to name chief deputy prosecutor Mark Nichols take over in the interim.
The prosecutor's office comes up for election again next year. Kelly has been prosecutor for eleven years.
