Still no official cause, damage estimate for transfer station fire

(Agnew) -- Fire District 3 officials say that the fire that destroyed Clallam County's Blue Mountain Transfer station on November 10th is still under investigation as to its cause, and that a dollar value is still being hashed out with the county.
The fire destroyed the business office, employee break area and burned off the roof that covered the garbage and cardboard recycling dumpsters. The fire shut down the facility indefinately for residents who use the site to drop off regular and recycled waste and recycle
Waste Connections operates the facility under contract with the city. The City of Port Angeles partners in an inter-local solid waste disposal agreement with Clallam County and the City of Sequim.
At a County Commissioners work session Tuesday, Clallam County Commissioner Mike Chapman, said they hope to fully reopen the facility within two to three months.
For now, customers can use the Regional Transfer Station in Port Angeles.
