City adds money to bluff project

November 21st, 2013 - 5:22am

(Port Angeles) The city of Port Angeles is moving forward with a plan to stabilize a sloughing bluff at the old Landfill site on the west side of the city.

This week, the city council approved paying a consultant more than 145-thousand dollars to come up with a plan to move garbage out of the landfill. That money would come from the state Department of Ecology. But the work may be in limbo if the state legislature doesn't approve a 2.5-million-dollar supplemental budget request for Port Angeles.

The city is trying to fix the collapsing bluff that threatens to spill tons of garbage into the Strait of Juan de Fuca. This week's proposed expenditure would fall under the current contract the city has with a Seattle consultant for design work on the bluff project.
