County releases draft update to garbage plan

November 22nd, 2013 - 5:14am

(CLALLAM COUNTY) A new draft that updates the County's “Solid Waste Management Plan” has been released for public review and comment.

The waste plan is mandated by state law, and was prepared to provide direction for managing solid waste, including collection and handling, within Clallam County.

Bob Martin, the Public Works Director for Clallam County says that these plan updates include ways to improve logistics, economics, and recycling methods associated with waste management.

Ironically, the last revision to the plan was done in 2006, when the Blue Mountain transfer station was added as a disposal and recycling facility for residents of the eastern portion of Clallam County. That facility went up in flames last week, and the County is doing their best to get things up and running again. Martin thinks that two months is a reasonable estimation to rebuild.

Members of the public who wish to review and comment on the updated waste management plan can go to the Clallam County web page at: http://www.clallam.net/boards/SWAC/ and find a link to the preliminary draft.

Public meetings will be held Monday, December 2nd at 6:30 PM at the Clallam County Courthouse and in Forks, on Tuesday December 3rd at 6:30 PM at the Forks City Hall. Comments may also be submitted to Bob Martin via his e-mail, at bmartin@co.clallam.wa.us.
