Teen jailed, two others hurt in rollover crash

November 25th, 2013 - 5:25am

(Port Angeles) An 18-year-old Sequim resident is in jail and two other teens are in the hospital after a one-car wreck early yesterday morning. Elijah Sanford was booked on possible DUI and vehicular assault charges. Clallam County sheriff's deputies say Sanford was behind the wheel of a 1991 Volkswagen Golf that went off Heuhslein Road about 1:30 Sunday morning. The car rolled at least once, ejecting a 15-year-old girl, who authorities are not identifying. She was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center and underwent surgery. She was last listed in serious condition. 19-year-old Garrett Payton was also injured in the crash. He was also taken to Harborview with less severe injuries. Sanford suffered minor abrasions and was able to crawl out of the wreckage. Deputies say alcohol and marijuana consumption as well as speed are all factors in the accident.
