Unemployment rate rises locally

(Port Angeles) The unemployment rate in Callam County jumped more than half a percent in October. It is now at 8.4 percent.

In September, the jobless rate locally was at 7.8 percent. Clallam County lost about 20 people from the labor force, but lost nearly 200 jobs in the month.

The area saw slides in the service-sector employment, but also saw gains in the government hiring.

The unemployment rate is nearly identical to October 2012.

Jefferson County also saw a jump in unemployment rates last month to 8.3 percent.

The statewide unemployment rate is at seven percent.
