Protest planned in wake of Trooper-involved accident

(Port Angeles) – The family of a man killed in a police pursuit near Port Angeles plans a protest in Port Angeles Saturday.
Peter and Colleen Larson's son, Bjorn, was killed in May 2011 when his motorcycle plunged over a ravine along Deer Park Road.
He was being pursued at the time by State Patrol trooper Travis Beebe. Beebe's vehicle also went over the embankment. He was cleared of formal charges in that case, but was suspended one day.
Beebe was also the trooper who flipped a u-turn last Friday to chase a speeder on the Morse Creek Hill. His car then reportedly crossed the center line and smashed into two other vehicles.
The State Patrol is still investigating, but has said Beebe was at fault for the crash.
The Larson's say the State Patrol should step in and look at the trooper's conduct. They're planning a peaceful protest Saturday at the Liberty Bell along Lincoln Street to make their point, saying Beebe's recent incident show a pattern of aggressive driving.
Beebe has been a trooper for 17 years, and was the trooper of the year for the north Olympic Peninsula in 2010.
