(Port Angeles) – More people were buying things earlier this year in Clallam County than at the same time the year before.
But the numbers were not as robust for purchases in the city of Port Angeles.
According to the state Department of Revenue, taxable retail sales in Clallam County jumped nearly 8.5 percent in the second quarter this year compared to last year. Those are the latest numbers available from the state.
The city of Port Angeles was not as good. Taxable retail sales rose just one-point-three percent inside the city limits during the same period.
Statewide, retail sales tax collections were up about eight percent.
Economists often use sales tax collections to gauge consumer and business activity in specific areas.
