Rousing tourism year for Port Angeles area in 2013

(Port Angeles) – Lodging tax collections in Port Angeles could reach an all-time high this year.

Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce executive director Russ Veenema told the chamber yesterday, the city's lodging facilities tax collections will top half a million dollars for the first time this year. The chamber handles marketing with lodging tax dollars for the city of Port Angeles. Veenema estimates county-wide the tax collections will be one-point-three million dollars.

Veenema was part of a talk to the chamber on tourism and marketing yesterday.

Veenema also added that lodging establishments in Port Angeles had an average occupancy rate of 54 percent this year. He says there were more than 252-thousand visitors that stayed at least one night in the city of Port Angeles in 2013. The numbers don't include “day-tippers” to the area.
