County to name "acting" prosecutor this week
December 17th, 2013 - 5:39am
(Port Angeles) – Clallam County commissioners will officially name temporary Clallam County prosecutor today.
Elected prosecutor Deb Kelly has resigned effective the end of the year. So commissioners need to act quickly to fill the position, at least temporarily.
County Administrator Jim Jones says chief deputy prosecutor Mark Nichols will named the “acting” prosecutor.
Jones says since the prosecutor is an elected, partisan position, the first steps to fill the post until the next election will be up to the up to the Clallam County Republican Party. The party still has to produce three names for county commissioners to chose an interim prosecutor that will serve out the remainder of Kelly's term.
Nichols has said he would run for the position when it comes up for a vote next fall.
