County bids goodbye to Superior Court Judge Taylor
December 18th, 2013 - 5:35am
(Port Angeles) – Retiring Superior Court Judge Brooke Taylor received a rousing round of applause from Clallam county commissioners, fellow contemporaries and many courthouse employees Tuesday morning.
They were recognizing Taylor for his many years of service as a prosecutor, private attorney and judge in the community.
Stepping down after 44-years, the last 6 on the Position
Three Bench, Taylor said he has mixed emotions.
Judge Taylor and his wife plan on a little vacation time, and then
stick around the Port Angeles area.
Chris Melly has been appointed to take over for Taylor after the first of the year. The position will go before voters next year.
Taylor says anyone coming in as new on the bench faces a steep learning curve.
Taylor was appointed to Position Three of the Superior
Court six years ago, inheriting a large backlog of cases, both
civil and criminal. By two years later, that backlog was gone, and court cases began to be heard in weeks and months, instead of years.
