Rider boys, girls top Vikings

It was two early-season Olympic League important basketball games Wednesday night and the Riders boys and girls prevailed in both efforts.
BOYS - The Riders (4-1.5-2) used a two-platoon system to wear down NK (2-2,3-3). The constant PA pressure forced key turnovers to offset NK's 56 per cent shooting in the first half.
PA and NK were tied 20-20 at the quarter, North Led 46-41 at halftime, then the Riders went to work, taking a 66-62 third period advantage.
The Riders led 72-62, but North battled back and cut the lead to 82-80 with 28 seconds left. Hunter Hathaway made a free throw, then North turned the ball over at midcourt with 12 seconds left.
Derek Schumacher wss fouled on a missed shot and canned two freebies with 9.8 seconds left to seal the win.
Hayden Gunderson had 20 off the bench to lead the Riders. Hathaway had 15, Schumaacher 11., Ethan Graebner had 24 for the Vikings.
GIRLS - Maddie Hinrichs, Maddie Boe and Krista Johnson limited NK's Rebekah Baugh to 3 points and PA pulled away from a 29-24 halftime lead to a 20-10 advantage in the second half to notch their fifth win to remain unbeaten and a game up on NK, Kingston and Sequim.
Johnson had 23 for the Riders, Hinrichs had 12.
PA boys go to Bremerton Friday, the girls host the Knights.
