December 19th, 2013 - 5:15am

(PORT ANGELES)-- Armstrong Marine of Port Angeles plans to expand its boat building operation to the east coast, in an effort to cut costs and increase its ability to market it products more effectively.

Armstrong Marine will build its new plant in Swansboro, North Carolina, a town with its own history in the ship building industry. The company plans to spend roughly $8-million dollars on the new plant.

Joe Armstrong, the President and CEO, says it's all about efficient marketing.

Despite the planned expansion to the east coast, Armstrong says that the plant in Port Angeles will remain.

Armstrong said they plan to expand their Port Angeles operation over the next 5 years. They specialize in aluminum boat manufacturing and serve a diverse market including fire boats, research vessels, dive boats, pilot boats, police and military interceptors, along river craft for both the military and industrial markets.
