Franklin rips Sequim boys 88-53

December 26th, 2013 - 11:35pm

The host Franklin Quakers defeated Sequim 88-53 Thursday night at the Tournament of Champions Holiday Classic in Seattle.

The eighth-ranked 3A Quakers (6-0) got a game-high 31 points from Keith Smith, while Eugene Artison added 21 markers.

Junior Alex Barry had a team-high 15 points for the Wolves (5-2 overall).

The Quakers led 44-21 at intermission and Sequim never threatened.

Sequim JV coach Phil Langston told Newsradio KONP last night that they were pleased with their team's effort, despite a mismatch of talent against a squad with a pair of bonafide Division I prospects.

Langston lauded the Wolves bench for playing a solid, physical man-to-man defense in the second half.

Coach Langston says the Sequim team grew from the experience and moved a step closer to playing at an optimum level.

Sequim will play Union High of Vancouver, coached by former Kingston mentor Blake Conley, in consolation bracket action today (Friday) at 4:30 p.m.

In other games Thursday, Cleveland squeaked by Foss 81-79, Wilson of Tacoma beat Union 62-44 and Canyon Springs of North Las Vegas ripped Nathan Hale 88-51.

Tomorrow's (Friday) schedule:

Foss vs Nathan Hale 2:45

Union vs Sequim 4:30

Cleveland vs Canyon Springs 6:15

Wilson vs Franklin 8:00
