PA council elects mayor after multiple votes

(Port Angeles) – Port Angeles has a new mayor, following a whole lot of voting at last night's city council meeting.
A former mayor, Dan DiGuilio, edged out siting mayor Cherie Kidd, after the council members appeared to be deadlocked between three candidates, the third being Brad Collins.
It takes a majority of four votes to elect a mayor, and four
separate ballots found DiGuilio with three, Kidd and Collins with
two each, and no one willing change their votes.
Finally, the council agreed to write their choices on a weighted ballot, choosing their first, second and third choices. When the numbers were tallied, it was Diguilio with four, Kidd with three. Kidd immediately surrendered her gavel to Diguilio, who ran through the rest of the meeting.
The mayor is always selected from among the city council members and serves two years in the mostly-ceremonial post.
