Rider girls, boys get hoop wins

Port Angeles girls (8-0, 10-2) took a 47-19 win at Port Townsend in Olympic League basketball action, while the Rider boys (5-3, 7-5) were beating the Redskins 57-54 in Port Angeles.

GIRLS - The Riders led 27-12 at the half and their zone defense limited PT to just 7 points in the second half and that paved the way for a 47-19 win. PT fell to 2-5, 6-6. Maddie Hinrichs led the Riders with 16.

PA hosts Olympic in a league showdown game Wednesday.

BOYS - The Riders led 33-25 at halftime, 48-36 at the end of three, then had just one field goal in the last period, only making 6 of 14 free throws which kept PT in the game.

The Redskins rallied 12 down to close to 56-54 late in the game, but Logan Ciaciuch made one of two freebies in the last 8 seconds to give the Riders a slight cushion. PA got the carom on his second shot, then managed to hold on.

Hayden Gunderson led PA with 20, PT was led by Jacob King with 15, Paul Spaltenstein added 14, Cody Russeell added 10. PT had 19 turnovers which hurt their cause and two fouled out in the final period.

PA goes to Olympic Wednesday to begin the second tour around the Olympic League. PA won jv game, 67-45 and C game, 59-49.
