(Port Angeles) – Clallam County commissioners will take up a new agreement for public defender services today.
The pact will renew the contract with the Clallam Public Defender's office to supply attorney's for those deemed too poor to afford legal counsel.
The agreement incorporates new case limits imposed by the state. The county adopted those limits late last year that caps the number of hours public defenders can spend on cases.
The county is expected to pay just around 830-thousand dollars in the first year of the new contract based on anticipated case loads. The contract runs for two years and will include a cost of living adjustment next year, the cost is expected to increase.
