New Port of PA commissioner takes seat, new officers picked

January 14th, 2014 - 5:33am

Port Angeles) -- The first meeting of the year for the Port of Port Angeles Commission saw several changes.

The first-ever female port commissioner, Colleen McAleer was sworn in.

McAleer then promptly nominated a new slate of officers, which was accepted.

Jim Hallett is takes over again as president, four months after he was ousted from the position. John Calhoun is Vice President, and McAleer is secretary.

McAleer also stressed the immediate need for a new business development director, the position she left after being elected to the commission.

Another change will be the days of the Port Commission's meetings, from Monday to Tuesday. The reason appears to be the proposed addition of bi-weekly workshops featuring commission members and staff and the public.

McAleer says the workshops should help clear up confusion or misunderstandings between commissioners and staff, plus give the public a better chance to be heard on Port issues.

The workshops will probably be on for 5 or 6 weeks, and then judged on their effectiveness.
