Former deputy prosecutor tabbed as interim Clallam prosecutor

(Port Angeles) – Clallam County commissioners have picked a former Clallam County deputy prosecutor to be the interim prosecutor.
Commissioners selecting Will Payne to fill out the unexpired term of Deb Kelly.
Payne was one of three candidates put forward by the Republican party.
He was chosen over current chief deputy prosecutor Mark Nichols, who is the acting prosecutor and private attorney Bob Strohmeyer.
Republican Jim McEntire and Democrat Mike Doherty vote in favor of Payne. Independent commissioner Mike Chapman voted to keep Mark Nichols.
Payne is a former deputy prosecutor for Clallam County.
He quit his job in 2009, and has run unsuccessfully for judge in Clallam County. He is currently an assistant state attorney general.
Payne says he plans to run for the prosecutor's office in November.
