Port Angeles claims breach of contract for smart meter project

(Port Angeles) – The city of Port Angeles says its contractor to install “smart meters” has breached its contract.
Last week, the city informed Mueller Systems that it has breached its agreement to plan and install the city’s Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system.
City officials say Mueller has failed to meet crucial benchmarks on the project, and it has not proceeded past its initial phase.
The city is legally obligated to give Mueller Systems 60 days to comply with the agreement.
The city has already paid Mueller $1.9 million out of the $4.9 million budgeted for the Mueller contract that was signed nearly four years ago.
Most of the money was spent on installing electric and water meters in one section of the city.
The city brought in another contractor to monitor Meuller's performance. That report will come to the city council on February 4th.
