PABA asks DOE to change Dungeness water rule
January 29th, 2014 - 5:26am
(Port Angeles) – The Port Angeles Business Association is joining the call for changing new water-use rules in the Dungeness River basin.
The PABA approved a letter to the state Department of Ecology asking the agency take a closer look at the rule which puts new limits on well water use in the east end of Clallam County.
The PABA's letter follows a petition from the Olympic Resource Protection Council, seeking changes to the rule after the state Supreme Court ruled Ecology went too far in implementing similar water rules in Skagit County.
The PABA letter raises concerns the rule is having a negative effect on the economic development in this area. The PABA believes Ecology had questionable authority in issuing the rule. The business group also claims there was not proper balance between the needs of the environment and people's potable water.
