Pipeline protest planned in Port Angeles

February 3rd, 2014 - 6:15am

(Port Angeles) Local environmental activists say they'll hold a vigil tonight over the proposed Keystone pipeline.

Olympic Climate Action is taking up the candlelight event as part of a national day of protests against the pipeline and a State Department report released last week that gave the controversial project a green light.

Protesters want the President to reject the plan. They say the pipeline would allow too much fossil fuel on world markets and create more greenhouse gasses.

Proponents disagree, and say the oil will help stabilize world oil prices and put tens of thousands of people to work in the United States.

The pipeline would carry crude oil from tar sands in Alberta to refineries in Texas.

The candlelight vigil runs from 4:30 to 6:30 tonight in front of the Port of Port Angeles offices.
