Coast Guard to use old landfill for training

February 7th, 2014 - 5:43am

(Port Angeles) The US Coast Guard will use the old Port Angeles landfill site for training.

The city council this week approved an agreement that will allow the Coast Guard to conduct training exercises over the decommissioned site on west 18th Street.

Coast Guard officials plan the first training in the next month and then will probably conduct one or two training sessions a month after that.

The arrangement calls for the Coast Guard to let neighbors know when the training sessions are scheduled. The Coast Guard plans to use helicopters that will fly over and hover in the area. Crews will practice extrications using the helicopter crews and mannequins.
