Sequim school board to finalize bond plans

(Sequim) – The Sequim School Board will decided tonight on the next steps for a major bond issue to pay for a number of facilities in the district.
Board members are expected to finalize plans for a $154 million dollar bond package.
Two weeks ago, the board settled in principle to move ahead with the bond.
But tonight, they'll make it official by taking up a resolution. They'll also decide when the bond will go before voters. Some board members have indicated they would like to put the measure before voters as soon as April. Others counter that may not give the Sequim Citizens for Education time to mount a campaign for the bond.
If approved, the district would use 140 million dollars for upgrades to the high school and two elementary schools and build a new elementary. Nearly five million dollars would be used toward a new stadium at the high school. Four million dollars would go to renovate playfields and the high school track. Another three million dollars would go to roofing projects, remodeling the transportation shop and building a new maintenance building.
