February 18th, 2014 - 4:11am

(Port Angeles) Fire ripped through a Port Angeles home yesterday afternoon.

Port Angeles firefighters were called to the scene about 3:15 pm at 1119 E. Park.

They found heavy smoke and flames showing from the two-story house. The home is home by the Tikka family. The Tikka's were home at the time of the fire and managed to escape.

PA Fire lieutenant Mike Sanders says firefighters made an aggressive transitional attack on the fire and contained it to several rooms within the structure. But the home was heavily damaged.

A section of Park Avenue was closed for several hours as firefighters fought the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. There is no estimate as to the dollar loss to the structure or the contents.

While this fire was being fought, Port Angeles fire personnel also simultaneously responded to a fire alarm at Peninsula College and a medical aid call on the west side of the city.
