Sumner girls down Port Angeles 46-29

(University Place) -- Anna Hurd scored 17 points and Jamie Lange added 14 as the Sumner Spartans defeated the Port Angeles Roughriders 46-29 Friday night in a West Central District Class 2A girls basketball semifinal at Curtis High School.

The Spartans will face archrival White River for the district championship at 4 p.m. Saturday at Pacific Lutheran University.

White River beat Renton 48-39 in the other semifinal game at Curtis Friday.

The Roughriders will be matched up against Renton Saturday night at Foss in an 8 o'clock seeding game for the 3rd and 4th place spots into the regionals.

Sumner (23-2) led 9-6 after a tight struggle in the first period, but the Spartans forged ahead 22-12 at intermission.

Port Angeles (18-4) trailed 34-22 after 3 quarters.

Krista Johnson led the Riders with 8 points, while Maddy Hinrichs, Bailee Jones and Nizhoni Wheeler had 4 tallies apiece.
