February 28th, 2014 - 4:41pm

(Port Angeles) — Clallam County deputy assessor Michael Hopf has died after he collapsed while bike riding with a group of friends Thursday night.

The Clallam County Sheriff's office told the Peninsula Daily News that Hopf collapsed while on his bicycle on the Olympic Discovery Trail near Place Road.

Sheriff Bill Benedict says the death was of natural causes.

Benedict says Hopf had worked for the assessor’s office for decades after a stint as a sheriff’s deputy.
