Rider girls to state

Port Angeles buried 11 of 12 free throws in the last period to subdue the Burlington-Edison Tigers, 54-46, in the round of 16 of the WIAA 2A Hardwood Classic at Mt Vernon.

Port Angeles will learn of its first foe Sunday when the teams are matched up. PA is a number 2 seed and will draw one of four number one seeds.

The Riders a 5-4 lead at the quiarter, led 19-13 at halftime and 34-30 at tne end of three.

PA saw the Tigers claw their way into a 36-36 tie, then Maddie Hinrichs hit a long bomb and the Riders won it at the foul line.

Hinrichs had three of four freebies down the stretch, Bailee Jones was 5/6 and Kylee Jeffers iced it with four in a row as the clock wound down.

PA got plenty of help from its bench, Nizhoni Wheeler getting four of her six in the second period and Lenora Hofer meshed three baskets in the second period to help the team keep the lead.

Port Angeles returns to the Sun Dome in Yakima Thursday, having played in the 2012 event. It's the fourt h straight year the Riders have made it to regionals.
