Sequim schools to launch all-day kindergarten next year

(SEQUIM) The Sequim School Board is making plans for 2015, to have all-day kindergarten in place. Washington State had offered funding to start such a program this year, but financial as well as logistical concerns made it impractical for the district to take the funding this year.
Sequim School Superintendent, Kelly Shea, expects the funding from the state to come through next year. Once the money is available, he explains says the district will have to double its capacity to offer all-day kindergarten.
Shae says it's more important then ever to prepare children early for an academic environment, and kindergarten is a lot different than many years ago.
The district will be implementing the all-day kindergarten programs at both Helen Haller and Greywolf schools. Each building would provide space for two classrooms with costs estimated to be around the $100,000-dollar mark.
