Park-closed ticket tossed

March 7th, 2014 - 11:51am

PORT ANGELES, Wash. (AP) - A Sequim woman who was ticketed for driving into an Olympic National Park parking lot during the government shutdown had her $125 fine erased this week by a federal magistrate.

Leanne Potts says the magistrate in Tacoma agreed the wording on a driveway sign last October was unclear and confusing.

The Peninsula Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/NG68vp) the sign read, ""Because of the federal government shutdown, this National Park Service facility is closed."

Port Angeles teacher Kelly Sanders was ticketed the same day when she took a group of foreign exchange students for a hike. She decided to pay the fine rather than miss work going to court in Tacoma.
