ONP planning more sessions on new wilderness area plan

March 13th, 2014 - 6:23am

PORT ANGELES) - The National Park Service will hold a series of public workshops on plans to manage the Olympic Wilderness area of the Olympic National Park.

Known as the “Wilderness Stewardship Plan”, four management strategies were developed based on used public input to the Olympic National Park.

Six workshops will be offered to the public to better understand what each plan entails.

The strategies are detailed in a 14-page table found on the National Park Service website: parkplanning.nps.gov. The options range from doing nothing to a full implementation of the federal wilderness act provisions.

Park spokeswoman, Barb Maynes, stresses that the public should take the time to review the details of these plans, because they are likely to find something that directly concerns them and their use of the park.

The park hopes to have the new management plans in place by fall of 2015.

The workshops begin March 18th in Port Angeles, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the Port Angeles Library.
