(Port Angeles) – A Port Angeles woman will be part of a team that will snorkel through the Arctic Ocean this summer.
It's an effort to monitor any effects of climate change on the environment and the life that exists there.
26-year-old Erika Bergman will be part of an all-woman team known as Sedna. Her team is scheduled to begin the 3,000 kilometer arctic journey this July.
Bergman says there are multiple reasons for the upcoming expedition.
Bergman is also an accomplished submersible watercraft pilot, studied chemical oceanography at the University of Washington, and refers to herself as an ocean technology “nerdette”.
She is currently building a piece of equipment, with the help of students from Port Angeles area schools, that will be used on her upcoming expedition.
Bergman will be the only American member of team Sedna. The other 9 members come from Canada, Mexico, and New Zealand.
