(Port Angeles) - The Port Angeles School District is preparing to implement a new program that will serve “gifted and highly capable students.”
The program is intended to cover students from the elementary level all the way up through high school.
It's based on requirements under Washington State law, and the school district is hoping to have the program in place by fall of 2014.
Many parents within the district have already received notices about the new program, and are encouraged to review the material and make a choice as to whether their children might be a good fit for this type of curriculum.
State law defines highly capable students as those “who perform or show potential for performing at significantly advanced academic levels when compared with others of their age, experiences, or environments”.
Parents who feel their child fits this category have until March 21st to complete and submit their nomination forms to the district.
