(Port Angeles) – Clallam County Commissioners have formally approved an agreement that cross deputizes sheriff's deputies and Olympic National Park rangers.
Clallam County chief criminal deputy Ron Cameron says the memorandum formalizes a working agreement between the two agencies, that have been working together for years.
Occasionally, when two different police agencies work together, there are some logistical concerns pertaining to equipment, such as radios. Cameron says the memorandum already had taken that into account.
The Port Angeles Police Department also has a similar MOU with the Olympic National Park Rangers. Clallam County Sheriff's are also cross-commissioned with agencies of the Lower Elwha Klallam and Jamestown S'Klallam tribal police.
