(Port Angeles) – Recently released data shows Clallam County has 28-hundred fewer jobs last year compared to the year 2000.
The county had about 750 more jobs last year than in 1990.
The data shows the biggest drop since 1990 in manufacturing, where the county shed more than half the jobs.
Similar drops have occurred in forestry, transportation, and construction.
The biggest growth has been in health and social services and government jobs. Since 1990, Clallam County has seen both those sectors nearly double the number of employment.
During the same period, data show the county's population has grown by nearly 30 percent. Most of that from people over 65 as that segment of the population has more than doubled over the last 23 years.
