Port Towsend High students pick finalists for new school name

March 27th, 2014 - 6:29am

(Port Townsend) – Students at Port Townsend High School have narrowed the names for a new mascot.

Students voted on the final choices in the move to replace “Redskins”, the moniker Port Townsend had used for decades.

The top choice was Redhawks, followed by Sasquatch and Rip Tide.

In early April, students will vote again to pick the winner. The new name and a logo will be used at the high school starting in the fall.

The school board dropped “Redskins” last summer saying it was offensive to Native Americans.
