Coastal seawall patched at Taholah

April 1st, 2014 - 2:41pm

TAHOLAH, Wash. (AP) - The Quinault Indian Nation says the Corps of Engineers patched the sea wall at Taholah (tah-HOL'-ah) with 45-hundred tons of rock.

The tribe declared an emergency last week and asked the corps for help after pounding waves breached the wall and destroyed a smokehouse and several outbuildings at the village on the Washington coast, about 30 miles north of Ocean Shores.

The emergency repair was completed Sunday but the tribe says a more permanent solution is needed for protection from the encroaching Pacific Ocean.
