New PA bridge opens Monday

April 14th, 2014 - 5:26am

(Port Angeles) Some two months later than had first been expected, the new Lauridsen Boulevard bridge opens today in Port Angeles.

A ribbon cutting is set for ten this morning. Then the barricades will come down and the new bridge will open to traffic.

The four and a half million dollar project began last August when the 45-year-old former bridge was demolished.

The new bridge was expected to be finished by February, but weather and contractor delays pushed the opening back.

The new bridge is wider. It features better pedestrian and bicycle access and a wider turning radius at the intersection with Race Street.
