PASD to give $60K toward Civic Field lighting

April 25th, 2014 - 11:53am

(Port Angeles) The Port Angeles School District will contribute to fixing lights at Civic Field.

But it won't be as much money as the city had asked for.

The school board last night agreed to spend 60-thousand dollars toward the project to replacing the failing light system at the field. That's the same amount the city of Port Angeles has pledged toward the project.

The city requested the school district contribute $140-thousand dollars. The city and school district money would be used as matching money for a state grant.

The city says it will cost about $400-thousand dollars to fix the 36-year-old lights that are failing and falling off the standards at the stadium.

City officials say its fair to ask the school district to pay a larger amount since 70 percent of the activities at the stadium are related to school sports.

The city says if the funding isn't found, activities at Civic Field will have to be limited to daylight only.
